A News Hermit Success

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations are always a special time around here, and this year was no exception. Family time is something I cherish deeply, and being surrounded by the people I love most is what makes the season so magical.
What I love about our celebrations is how everyone pitches in to make it fun. Whether it’s sharing stories, preparing meals, or just laughing together, each person adds their own unique energy to the day. It’s not about the gifts or the decorations—it’s about the joy and connection we create as a family.
This year, the food was a highlight—truly a feast! The star of the show was a pan-Latin version of lechón asado, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was complemented by a variety of delicious dishes, all lovingly prepared and eagerly enjoyed by everyone. Sharing a meal like this reminds me how food has a way of bringing us closer, turning a simple gathering into something truly memorable.
Of course, the activities were just as special. Our family dove into multiple complicated and involved board games, the kind that spark friendly competition and plenty of laughs. These games were the perfect backdrop to fun conversation and the music we had playing in the background, creating a cozy, joyful atmosphere that I’ll carry with me long after the holidays are over.
I also found myself reflecting on my News Hermit journey during these gatherings. Even though I haven’t been tuning in to the news daily, I seemed to keep up just fine in all the conversations I’d normally join. The kids are into some obscure pop-culture stuff, which I remain pretty clueless about, but when it came to most topics, I was right there, engaged and connected.
What surprised me most was how my interests and reading outside of the news came up a few times in a fun, organic way. It felt like I brought something new to the table—not because I knew every headline, but because I had the time and space to explore things that genuinely interest me.
So, I’m calling this a News Hermit success—among the people I love most, no less. This holiday season reminded me that stepping back from the noise hasn’t isolated me. If anything, it’s given me a little more to share and a little more to enjoy when I’m with my family.
